Can something as delish as guacamole be good for you? YES! Yes, it can.
Guacamole is one of my favorite things. I could eat it with every meal and put it on everything. Not only because it’s packed with amazing flavor, but also because it has killer health benefits!
For starters, avocados have more potassium than a banana. So all of those times we got muscle cramps in high school and ate bananas for potassium, we were choosing the wrong fruit! (Yes, avocados are fruit)
Avocados are also packed with the good and healthy fat known as monounsaturated fat. These fats are found in things like avocados and olive oil and are known to be the heart healthy fats. Fat is used in all of our cells to communicate, absorb vitamins and to allow for proper brain function. It is a vital nutrient for us to live healthfully.
It also slows the digestion and absorption of foods, so incorporating them into meals allows for a more feeling of fullness and can aid in balanced blood sugar levels over time.
Other sources of healthy fats include walnuts, almonds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, avocado oil, coconut oil, raw cocao and wild caught salmon.
Incorporating good fats into your diet can do amazing things for your health and they also taste great. 🙂
Ingredients: (Serves 2-3)
- 2 large ripe avocados
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/2 cup organic red bell pepper (high in antioxidants)
- 1 garlic clove (minced)
- 1/4 cup white or red onion
- 1/2 cup chopped organic tomatoes
- juice from half a lime
- salt and pepper to taste
- green onions to garnish
- Mash avocados in bowl
- Add cilantro and garlic, mix
- Add onions and peppers, mix
- Add tomatoes, salt, pepper and lime
- Mix all together, garnish with green onions
- Serve right away or cover and put in fridge
